What Are Assignees?
Assignees are the users directly responsible for completing or handling a specific item. When you assign an item:
The assignee receives notifications about updates and status changes.
They are responsible for carrying out the work or moving the task forward.
Their name is clearly marked on the item, so everyone knows who is accountable.
Example: Assign a support ticket to Jane, and she will be responsible for updating its status and resolving it.
Assigning an item ensures clarity and accountability, reducing confusion and improving task ownership.
What Are Watchers?
Watchers are users who want to stay informed about an item without being responsible for completing it. Watchers:
Receive notifications whenever the item changes or comments are added.
Can monitor progress, provide feedback, or assist if needed.
Are ideal for managers, stakeholders, or team members interested in the item’s status.
Example: Mark Alex as a watcher on a project proposal so he can follow its progress without handling tasks.
Adding watchers keeps relevant team members in the loop while avoiding unnecessary task ownership.
How to Assign and Add Watchers
Assigning an Item:
Open the item details.
Locate the Assignee field.
Select the user responsible from the list.
Save your changes. The assignee will now be notified and accountable.
Adding Watchers:
Open the item details.
Find the Watchers section.
Add users who should be kept informed.
These users will receive notifications but are not responsible for completing the task.
Why Use Assignees and Watchers?
Clear Responsibilities: Everyone knows who is doing what.
Better Communication: Watchers stay updated without overloading assignees.
Improved Collaboration: Multiple team members can provide feedback or support.
Enhanced Transparency: Managers and stakeholders can monitor progress easily.
💡 Tip: Use watchers for items that affect multiple teams but don’t require direct action, and assign multiple watchers to ensure full visibility across departments.
